As you may or may not know, Virginia Woolf is my favorite author. Her books, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves, capture the sounds and movement of poetry in novel form, along with intense and honest philosophical searching, in a way that I have not encountered in anyone else's writing. They also touch on topics that both Woolf and I find immensely important and interesting: the role of the artist in society, the nature and purpose of the craft of writing, the possibility of forming true relationships with other people, the desire of every human to connect to others, etc. I think I also feel an affinity for her because she is a woman, and not just any woman, but one of great depth, intelligence, and sensitivity.
This link takes you to a youtube post, which features the only known recording of Woolf's voice. I've read her for about 8 years and haven't heard her voice until now, and this is just about how I imagined she'd sound. Lovely. (warning: the topic is the nature of words, which I'm guessing the majority will not find too interesting, but maybe I'm wrong.)
