Not too long ago, I waxed poetic about my love of stickers. This week, I have discovered something that may take these adorable adhesives place in my heart - GLITTER (invented by the genius in the title line). There is glitter everywhere in my classroom, and therefore all over me. I am wearing it as we speak. Once it gets on your clothes, it's there for good. So don't be surprised if I reflect light in an unusual way when you see me in the future.I've been loving the time spent preparing our room. Most of you probably don't know that I used to consider myself somewhat of an artist. I drew all the time, and really enjoyed the creative process, all through high-school and college. I pretty much let that go, though, since I entered the working world, as I never put time aside for it and eventually grew out of the habit. It's hard to pick something up once you've put it down for so long, so if it weren't for a job that demanded it of me, I might never have used this imaginative/creative side again (well - I was the graphic designer for LL, but that was different...it was all computer-y stuff, which I don't find NEARLY as fulfilling). I love that I'm drawing again and making stuff. It's not quite the same KIND of stuff (I used to prefer portraiture, and these days it's more farm animals and glitter-edged shapes), but it's fun nonetheless. I'm finding myself wanting to pick up the pencil and drawing pad when I get home, so hopefully I will start working on the old stuff soon. If so, I'll be sure to include some pictures of it on the site.
Kids come on Monday. This Friday is our open-house. I saw one of my summer students today and she ran right up to me and gave me a big hug. It was a good reminder of what I'm doing and helped quell some of the fear (just SOME of it).
I'm still waiting on the picture of me and the celebrity. I'll post it, along with the pictures I take of school, as soon as I get them.
I will leave you with a word for the day: "Janky" - it's a cross between junky and skanky. I just learned it 2 days ago and have found that it really comes in useful. Learn it. Know it. Live it. (well, don't really live it. it's just a saying.)
