Mr. Dave's Magic Show

Today at 9:30 we lined up the kids, boarded a big blue bus, and headed to the Smithsonian for a magic show. The magician was named Mr. Dave (http://discoverytheater.org/shows/jul/magic_show.shtm), and he was such a hit. The crowd was very diverse - young and old, rich and poor, black and white - and everyone seemed to have a good time. His illusions (don't call them tricks!) were pretty basic. I think I remember my brother practicing similar ones when he got his beginning magic kit back in 1984. The kids, however, - who are, after all, the audience he caters to - had never seen something so amazing. They were stunned into sheer silence (THAT is magic), bowled over by his slight of hand (the 1st grade boy behind me just kept saying "DANG" over and over again).

So today was easy as pie (in comparison to most).

It would have been just about perfect if one of the parents who joined us hadn't passed out gum to the 3 - 5 year olds on the bus RIGHT BEFORE THEY WENT INTO A THEATRE. I mean - come on.
