Little Lights

The kids at Little Lights made this craft project, which I think is particularly wonderful:

I think I've spoken about Sa'Niya on this blog before. She is a WONDERFUL girl. I know I say that about them all, but this one is really something special. She is very, very smart, and incredibly mature and responsible. She is 9, and has 3 younger siblings who she takes care of on a regular basis. A couple of weeks ago Sa'Niya's mom passed away. It has been understandably very difficult for her and her siblings. I don't see her much anymore, now that I'm only at Little Lights a few hours a week, but other members of the staff are reaching out to her and loving her. PLEASE pray for her and her siblings (William, April, and Sequan).

I won't be at Little Lights for much longer, so I want to take this chance to say that it has been such a privilege and a blessing to work here. Without going into too many details, the staff and leadership of this organization has loved me through some tough times, and helped me grow and learn that working with kids is truly what I'm meant to do. Without them and the exceptional children we work with, I would have no idea that I should go into teaching, and it wasn't until I realized that this is the profession I should be in that I finally felt a sense of real purpose in my life - a feeling of "AHA - so THAT'S what I was made to do!".

So thank you, Little Lights. And thank you to the children of Potomac Gardens. You are priceless and unique creations of a God who loves you and finds great joy in you (as do I).

That's incredible work you've done - you've demonstrated to me and many others what can (and should) be done in the city.

Always love it when you can include pics of the kids.
