On December 13, Little Lights hosted its annual Christmas Party. This is always a HUGE production, and probably the highlight of the year for many of our kids. Each one gets to select a present, and our amazing volunteers and donors work to make sure that they receive it. There are always a few, however, who aren't as excited about what they get as the others (sometimes, when you give a kid a Toys R Us catalogue and tell them to pick something, they point to the first kinda cool thing they see, only to wish later - upon inspecting what their friends got - that they had been a little more thoughtful).
I am always thankful for the time I get to spend with the kids. Lately, it hasn't been nearly as much as it used to be. I feel the difference in my life when they're not as present in it. Now that my job has changed somewhat (more office hours), I need to work harder to spend time with them. I'm incredibly lucky (ie - blessed) to even have the opportunity to work with these kids, and I need to take full advantage of that. They are precious.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all of you.
